Whiporie to Casino via the Summerland Way

There was fog over the nearby paddocks when we woke this morning. It had rained a little overnight, but the skies were fine as we had breakfast and packed up camp. Mark got chatting with the owner of the general store, Desiree and found she and her husband had only been in Whiporie for 5 months after moving from Brisbane ‘to a cooler climate’. Both Desiree and her husband Glen are very welcoming so if you follow us  give them a call at the Whiporie General Store and request a spot for the night as we did. You must also try a Whiporie works burger.

The road into Casino was very pleasant, undulating but with even less height in the ups and downs than the day before. Again, the road had a good surface and not a lot of traffic. Being a Saturday, Desiree had speculated that there would be few trucks on the road, and she was right.

We arrived at the Information Centre in Casino about 2.30 after leaving Whiporie about 10.30. Bindi at the information centre was very helpful. Being a touring cyclist herself, she has recommended we take the road to Kyogle and then to Murwillumbah rather than the Spring Grove Road to Lismore and then Lismore Road to Bangalow and Byron Bay that we were thinking of. Apparently Lismore Road is quite windy and narrow, and the scenery going to Murwillumbah is wonderful. Of course there will be hills involved, but that would be the case whichever route we choose.

After visiting the Information Centre we stopped off at Woolies to get provisions for dinner and breakfast. Tomorrow is a rest day so we shall sleep in, catch up on the washing and update the website.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
