Normanton
After much discussion we have decided not to go to Karumba, so the Normanton River will be as close as we get to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Many who we speak to say that the caravan parks at Karumba are busy and the sites are packed in like sardines. Also there are no vacancies for a few days. Some caravans are actually staying over in Normanton waiting for a vacancy. The only draw card for people such as us not towing a boat is the sunset, so we felt the two days required to do the trip would be better spent somewhere else.
We spent the day planning our next leg to Cloncurry and walking around the “town walk”. It was a lot cooler today than yesterday but it is still very windy which does not bode well for our ride south. Gusts of up to 39kph are forecast for tomorrow.
