Day 122, Wednesday, 29 July 2009

Mataranka

For what ever the reasons we did not get to Bitter Springs today. Morning tea spread into lunch and lunch spread into the afternoon so we decided to stay another night and go tomorrow.

The day before our neighbour told us the local chook “Toddles” had laid an egg in a bag in their tent. With their departure, today was our turn and Toddles persistently cased out our tent for a suitable spot. We tried in vain to chase her away and when we returned from lunch there was an egg amongst our bags in the front of the tent.

The managers of the park told us that “Toddles” was the only remaining hen from four and it seemed to be fearless. It evaded all attempts to be locked up safely at night and would get into and out of cars and caravans if the door was left open. They fully expect it to disappear one day as it is mistakenly locked in a caravan. Toddles, if you do leave Mataranka this way make sure you send a postcard home letting them all know you are OK.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
