Moruya to Batemans Bay

Our route today took us along the Moruya River and around the coast to Batemans Bay rather than the direct and shorter Princes Highway. The first 15km to Broulee are reasonably flat and it felt extremely odd riding along this flat straight section of road. After 5km of straight road I was looking for some variation. After all our complaints about hills in the last couple of days it felt a bit weird to be wanting the road to rise and fall a little. I began to think back to how we had managed the 146 kilometres of the 90 Mile Straight back on day 239. Lately we have obviously become conditioned to the winding roads of south eastern Australia.

Denise made the comment that even though the area is overly developed this is perhaps some of the best coast line in south eastern Australia and most importantly it is in our own backyard with Canberra only 3 hours drive away. We should come down and take advantage of it more often.

Being so close to Canberra we began to realise that our journey is indeed coming to an end. We even bought a Canberra Times two days ago. We have very much enjoyed our journey but living out of three small bags is starting to become a little tiresome. The tent rarely goes up these days.  A colleague sent us a text today enquiring about our whereabouts. We replied – “In Batemans Bay enroute to Sydney and Home. Looking forward to having more than 2 shirts to choose from.”  His reply “Nice will see you soon then. Who needs shirts, naked is the new black, haha.”  Our reply “ ;-) What a picture you paint! D & M in new black on bicycles.”

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
