Norseman to Fraser Range Sheep Station

In contrast to the very high temperatures that are being experienced on the east coast we had a relatively cold day today. For most of the morning it remained overcast and we found if quite chilly riding down the hills but it was not cold enough to wear our wind stopper clothing.  Shortly after lunch the sun began to break through the clouds and by the time we reached Fraser Range Sheep Station, our destination for today, it was mostly blue sky.

The overcast conditions slowed the flies down but it did not keep them away. We had two types of flies annoying us. The little sticky flies that walk behind our sunglasses and try to get into the corner of our eyes and a small ‘March’ fly that kept themselves occupied biting Denise through her niks. These march flies give quite a  sharp bite and if you look carefully at the bite area you can sometimes see a small hole where they have shoved their proboscis in. I nearly rode my bike down an embankment watching a march fly try to land on my ankle. It seemed to somehow hover next to my leg and keep pace with me and every time my ankle came past it would try to settle on it. After a good number of attempts it was succesful but it was quickly rewarded by being swatted by my hand.

Progress today was relatively easy but the last 25 km was a steady climb with some steep hills. We may have mentioned this before, but we know it’s steep when we hear the road trains changing down through the gears behind us, and today there were a number of hills where this occurred.

Fraser Range Sheep Station promotes itself as an “oasis in the desert” and it certainly is that. The only downside we could find was that they do not stock chocolate milk!

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.

Our next capital city to tick off is Adelaide!!!!!!
