Day 129, Wednesday, 5 August 2009

Distance travelled – 97.9 km
Avg speed – 21.5 kph
Max speed – 45.4 kph

Adelaide River to Berrimah

The first 30km today was over a very rough road and by the time we reached our destination for morning tea we both had rather sore bums. We have been suspecting for a while that the chamois in our cycling niks has been wearing out so Denise donned two pairs to see if extra padding would solve the problem. She reported good results and decided to look for some new niks when she got to Darwin. I had already placed a mail order for new niks before we left Katherine so hopefully they should be there when we return later in the week.

The rough road was starting to make us wonder if we would make the distance today as it slowed our progress significantly, but as we approached Acacia - our lunch stop for today, everything began to get a little easier. As we approached Berry Springs and the beginning of the dual carriageway into Darwin our energy levels lifted and we made good progress into the caravan park at Berrimah we had booked into for the next three nights. Tomorrow we will ride the last 17km into Darwin and tick off another capital city on our trip.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
